Lord Zion, thank you very much for having time! So let’s start with the interview! Please picture your band and tell me what’s about your cool names!
Hi! Well, there are 5 members of SPiT LiKE THiS – I am LORD ZiON aka GODFATHER OF THE SPiT LiKE THiS UNiVERSE. I started this whole thing with Vikki, I write the music, design the artwork, the site, the logos etc and, up until recently, managed us too – hence the rather grand title! Zion is my real name. True story: my birth father was in prison in Germany and one of the cellmates was called Zion. When he came out, I was born and he named me after him, for some reason. The Lordship I got a few years ago for a laugh! It annoys the fuck out of posh people.

ViKKi SPiT, aka FETiSH QUEEN plays bass guitar and looks sexy on and off stage! We met a few years ago, she seemed like a girl version of me so we decided to put a band together! Her real name has always been Vikki, she added the “Spit” bit as she’s married to the band and, as for the FETiSH QUEEN bit – it speaks for itself!

WANK SiNATRA plays synthesiser and 2nd guitar. He was the 3rd member that we found. I actually shared a house with Wank a few years ago but we never did the band thing, even though we knew we should. We lost contact for a few years and, one day, I was telling Vikki about someone that would be perfect for us – at that moment, Wank phoned up out of the blue! Within a day he was in. His real name is a state secret. We can’t reveal it as he has one or two people after him due to his nafarious past! Wank is known as THE SLuTMASTER as he fucks all the SLuTz with his pink cock!

STEViE LEE is our lead guitar player and official band heartbreaker. He is known as PRiNCE OF SLuTz as he attracts the slightly younger audience who all love him! He was the 4th member that we added to the fold after one audition where we didn’t even hear him play! We spent a few hours hanging out and I just knew that I could hang out with him forever and wanted him in the band. Bonus was, he was an amazing guitar player too! Mark my words, Stevie will be the guitar hero for a new generation!

ViLE GiLEZ is the drummer and known as the KiNG OF KAOS. If you knew him, you wouldn’t need to ask why! I swear to be an amazing drummer, you have to have a screw loose. Well, VG’s head is a bag of nuts and bolts!!! Since we have known him – about 18 months – he has destroyed approximately 8 cars. They just die as soon as he has them. They get smashed up or explode for no reason. Totally mad! Gilez was the final piece of the jigsaw puzzle to be added. Again, we met him, fell in love with him and knew that he was 100% SPiT LiKE THiS.

How long does Spit like this already exist and how did you get together?
Well, me and Vikki started it in December 2000 after seeing Hardcore Superstar at the Underworld, Camden. At the time, I was in a more melodic band and was really unhappy. I was co-writing and having to compromise all the time and It drove me mad. All I wanted to do was be in the best rock n roll band in the world and have an amazing time. Not too much to ask!! At that show, in between puking my guts up through too much Jack Daniels, I made the decision to quit the band I was in and start the band I had always wanted to be part of. Vikki fitted in just right so she was immediately on board.

We spent the next 9 months drinking waaaaay too much Vodka whilst trying to get the cash together to buy the gear to record our first EP. To do this, we hit upon the notion of selling Vikki’s used panties on eBay! The money came in, we got the gear and recorded our first EP, “The Pop Shot!”. In tribute to how we got the cash, we named it after the climax of every decent porno movie! That was released in the summer of 2002 to rave reviews.

At the same time, we started smellyourmum.com, our offensive t-shirt company. The idea being that 1) we would make enough money to fund SPiT LiKE THiS and 2) it would be a great way to get our name about. Using the money from that, we recorded our 2nd EP, “Anarchy For Two”. The title of the EP and the songs themselves were very autobiographical, and described the previous year or so to a tee. It was an incredible time, looking back, not knowing what was around the corner. Anyway, we released that in early 2003 and immediately got record company interest and even more amazing reviews.

A few months after the release of “Anarchy”, we started the search for the rest of SPiT LiKE THiS. Literally within about 3 weeks of looking, we had everyone (March/April 2003)! We had our first gig in London 2 months later.

I have always wanted to be in this band, and now I am! Every band I’d been in before was a struggle – I hated most people I worked with. With SLT though, we are a gang. We all have SPiT LiKE THiS tattoos and, when we play a gig, we crash into the venue and take it over with our obnoxious behaviour, pissing everyone off. But people must understand, we are warriors and the venues are our battleground. We are there to WiN!

I liked your EP, „Dragged, Kicked and Screaming“, extremly, is there an album coming and what about a deal with a record label?
Thanx! We worked hard on it, as we do with everything we do. We have enough material for 2 or 3 classic albums. That is no word of a lie! We don’t have filler songs – every track we do is fantastic. I have a back catalogue of 100+ songs that I have written – picking the 12 best for an album is going to be hard work! The result will be one of the best albums ever made though – so it is an event I am looking forward to!

We have been offered a deal that we turned down. Funny enough, we were talking to another label that are interested in signing us after seeing us play last night. We’ll see if they’re right for us. We have just taken on our first manager, who has worked with Alice Cooper, Van Halen, Twisted Sister and a load of other people so, watch this space!

There is something that is VERY important to us. We MUST have creative control over our material. We will not be dictated to by a record label, however big or small. We are doing things our way, creating the buzz and have built up an impressive fan base. Now the labels can come to us and beg us to sign. Whatever label is lucky enough to have us will have to work very hard for us! We will be the #1 band on the planet, so they have to be ready for that!!

I have to confess that your bass singer „Vikki Spit“ is absolutely hot; is she your girlfriend?
Thank you! I showed her this question and she thought it was the best one of the lot! Me and Vikki got together at the same time that we started SLT. Like I said, she was the girl version of me and, having always wanted to fuck myself, I thought she would be perfect for me!!

How would you describe Spit like this in your point of view?
SPiT LiKE THiS is what we do 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It is our dreams come true. It is more than just a band, it is a way of life. Can you handle it??

Is there a Sleaze/Glam scene in England? Actually, I only know the Tigertailz from Wales and Dog’s d Amour. Bands like Wrathchild aren’t here anymore since a long time!
We might be playing with Tigertailz soon, so that will be cool. We should be meeting Steevie on Tuesday to discuss things.. As for the sleaze scene, generally, there isn’t one. I will tell you what there is though, a lot of really shitty boring bands with no heart or soul that TRY to be sleaze / glam. They’ve seen a Poison video and think that all they have to do is wear a bit of makeup and write some catchy tunes. I call it Hairdresser Rock, as they all look like fucking hairdressers. It’s getting a bit trendy over here, in an underground kind of way, so these people are jumping on the bandwagon. Well, those wankers can fuck off and die! Death to false metal. That is why I have FAKE tattooed on the fingers of my left hand and REAL on my right, so I can show the FAKE bands what I think of them. Cut ME in half though, and you would find ROCK n ROLL written through my middle!

How does a live show look like; what can i expect from a spit like this show and do you sometimes play cover songs? If yes, which ones?
The first EP had one cover, or adaptation as I like to call it, of a song – Asshole by Denis Leary. I rearranged it slightly and then turned it into a different kind of monster that bears no resemlance to the original. That is it though. I did it as a joke but everyone loved it, so it was used. Wouldn’t do it again. Bands that play covers are lazy. I hate tribute bands too. Full of failed musicians living on other people’s hard work and glory. Give it up guys, and stop taking gigs away from real bands!

As for our show… Well, what can I say? Some critics have called it “the best show I have ever seen”. Others have said that “they might be the best in the world”. What more do you need to know? It is like watching a car crash in slow motion. It is an unstoppable tour de force. High energy. High impact. In fact, I shall quote you some lines from one of our songs that sums it up:

“We’re on the stage and kicking your ass
No-one can beat us, we’re number 1
We’ve got blood and fire
We’re gonna sweat for you
So you can pay us back by fighting for the front row”

Lord Zion, you look like a blooded rocker and I can’t really imagine that you’re working beside music?!
No. This is what I do 24/7. Like I mentioned, me and Vikki set up smellyourmum.com so that we could be in control of our destiny.

Which current bands do you like best at the moment?
SPiT LiKE THiS. No other band comes close

Please tell me your 5 absolutely favourite albums EVER.
Aaaaargh!! I hate questions like this – it changes on a daily basis!!

OK, in no particular order

Motley Crue “Too Fast For Love”
LA Guns “Cocked And Loaded”
Adam Ant “Ant Music”
Kid Rock “Devil Without A Cause”
Cats In Boots “Kicked And Clawed”

But it will be different if you asked me tomorrow!

I have VERY diverse musical tastes – it makes me a better songwriter. I love 70’s glam like T-Rex, Sweet, Abba / 70’s prog like Genesis / 80’s glam like the Crue, Poison etc / 80’s thrash – Metallica, Slayer etc / 80’s pop like Adam Ant Frankie Goes To Hollywood, Madonna.. In the 90’s it all fucked up when Kurt Cobain came along and ruined the music scene. I got into Pantera, Sepultura and other really heavy bands but then I started to look at other forms of music, to expand my musical palette. I picked up TLC “CrazySexyCool” and loved it, so that has lead me onto enjoying a lot of Hip Hop, RnB. I like songs, not genres!

At the moment, there is nothing around musically that excites me, apart from what we are doing.

You receive a lot of good critisism from the german spoken area for your EP. Did you ever think about coming on tour in Germany or Switzerland? Maybe as a support act?
We would LOVE to come out and support someone in Germany and Switzerland. If you know anyone, put them in touch! Other bands beware though – we are here to steal your fans!

What do you think when you see the following expressions?

Can you name a Swiss metal band?
Are Hardcore Superstar Swiss? If they are, then yes. If not, no!

No Man, Hardcore Superstar are from Finnland. Your homepage is excellent. Are you a internet junkie by yourself and which are your preferred pages?
I recognised in about 1997 that the internet was going to be the tool of the future so I taught myself html, java and a couple of other neat tricks. Since then, I have designed, built and maintained all of our sites. They are the gateway to our universe and how most people find out about us. The internet is an incredible thing for a band – most bands don’t exploit it properly though and most band sites are dire.

At the moment, there’s a huge hype because of The Darkness from England. How can you explain this?
Nostalgia. The Darkness are easy to like for people that don’t want to be challenged. They are the tribute act taken to it’s ultimate conclusion. I cannot deny that we have a lot of ‘80’s influence in what we do BUT, we add our own ingredients to the mix. That makes it different and, as most observers have concluded, unique. The Darkness have just done a carbon copy of the past – they are no better or worse than Spinal Tap.

Please give a mark to the following singers from 1-10 (10 best)
Ahh, but do I grade them for their singing capabilities or as frontmen? The two are very different! OK, I shall comment on them, rather than grade them, if that’s ok with you?!

-Tim Owens (iced earth/ex priest)

Amazing techniquehe

-Jizzy Pearl (ratt/ex love/hate)

Great voice that gets on your nerves after a while

-Bruce Dickinson (iron maiden)

I have bundles of respect for BD for what he does, but I hate that cod-opera style of singing

Whitfield Crane (ugly kid joe)
Not alot

James Hetfield (metallica)

Perfect for the band.

Fred Durst (limb bizkit)

Fred Durst can suck my cock.

Kim Hooker (tigertailz)

A typical sleaze voice.

Sebastian Bach (ex skid row)

Great in the studio, not so good live

Phil Lewis (l.a.guns)

One of my favourites as it has SOUL people, SOUL! That is what counts.

Mike Tramp (ex white lion)

A bit whingy but OK in small doses.

What about groupies?
What about them? I love meeting our SLuTz, but I have my very own one to play with in Vikki! Some of the other guys enjoy them though and, most of them are cool.

Is there a film you’d have loved to play a chief part or to which film would you like to have accounted a song for the soundtrack?
I would have loved to have been in the original Star Wars trilogy! The best movies of all time, no question about it. Anyone that disagrees can eat my arse.

Now let’s talk about the person “lord zion”. Are there any interesting hobbies we should know?
What the fuck is a hobby?? If you were in SPiT LiKE THiS, you wouldn’t either need or want a hobby! Why would I want to work at anything else other than the band?? Good or bad, my entire life is devoted to the relentless persuit of rock n roll glory.

Are tattoos a hobby? They’re about the only thing I “collect”.

How is the selling with your merchandise products? Your shirts look pretty cool.. may I have one?
Of course you can! Let me know sizes / design and I’ll hook you up.

They sell very well. We started advertising them in Kerrang! recently and, since then, it’s gone great. My evil master plan is working… We are gaining notoriety and becoming something that you cannot ignore.

Now there are some Sleaze „Or“ questions:
Erocktica oder Rockbitch - Neither.

Love or Groupies - Love with someone who fucks you like a groupie

Beer or Pot - Yuk! Give me a bottle of rum and a line of coke.

Twisted Sister or Motörhead - TS for the fun, Motorhead for the respect

Accept or Scorpions - Accept

Rockstar or Pornstar - Rockstar!

Pamela Anderson or Avril Lavigne - Pammy

80’s or 90’s - Only good bit of the ‘90’s was when Kurt Cobain blew his head off. Idiot.

Black or colored clothes - Either.

Poison or Warrant - Depends… 1st couple of Poison albums are great. Then it all goes tits up. Early Warrant albums were only OK until Dog Eat Dog, which is awesome. So, a bit of both, please.

Monster Magnet or Metallica - Metallica until 1990

you a fucking successful time and I think there’s a lot we could hear about you! I’d like to see you on tour to continue this interview
Well, first of all, thank YOU for your support and I hope my translated answers make sense! I am glad to have introduced you to the SPiT LiKE THiS UNiVERSE and, if just one person that reads this comes and changes their lives with us, then it has been an honour.

Remember, SPiT LiKE THiS is more than a band, it is a way of life. We give 100% of ourselves to our fans, THE SLuTz but, in return, we expect a lot! Loyalty, devotion and passion. It’s hard work being a true SLuT, but rewarding and a lot of fun. We have the greatest fans in the world – you know why?? Because we ignite a fire inside them that most other people try and extinguish.
